Workshop: Exploring the Sport Integrity Framework to Protect Athletes from Abuse and Violence
Through an open dialogue, this workshop seeks to identify opportunities and pathways for ensuring the fight against harassment and abuse in sports is recognized as an integral component of sport integrity.
The discourse around incidents of harassment and abuse in sport has gained increasing traction over the past two decades. Driven in large part by survivors who have chosen to break the silence, alongside the growing body of research in the field of safeguarding and safe sport, this issue has gradually become part of broader discussions around sport integrity.
However, despite the important progress made by survivors, advocates, and researchers in bringing these issues to the forefront, the translation of this growing awareness into concrete and effective measures on the ground remains uneven.
Questions also remain regarding the extent to which existing policies, mechanisms, and safeguarding structures are effective in preventing and reducing the high rates of interpersonal violence in sport.
Bringing together experts from different disciplines, this workshop will explore how safe sport can be more fully and sustainably integrated into broader discussions and frameworks on sport integrity.
