Our Strategy
We are working toward a world where global sport is an authentic force for good.
Our Vision
We envision a world where sport is an authentic force for good – governed with democracy, transparency and respect for human rights, safe and inclusive of all athletes, workers, fans, journalists and communities, and accountable for its immense impact, resources and influence.
Our Mission
To harness the collective strength, expertise and experience of our partners and members to hold the institutions of global sport accountable – and to build a movement powerful enough to turn accountability into real change.
Pillar #1: Policies
Our objective: Sport governing bodies embed human rights, good governance and integrity at the core of their operations and governance, with binding commitments, independent monitoring and meaningful remedy. Where voluntary commitments prove insufficient, states and regulators step in.
Our areas of focus: The SRA’s work on policies targets the institutions with the greatest power to shape human rights in and through global sport – institutions in which failure to act, or active backsliding, has the greatest consequences for people engaged in sport.
Pillar #2: Events
Our objective: Mega sporting events are awarded, planned and delivered in full compliance with human and labour rights standards, with genuine protections for workers, athletes, journalists, fans and host communities.
Our areas of focus: We will use both a series of mega sporting events and tournament bidding processes to shine a spotlight on threats to human rights and drive change.
Pillar #3: People
Our objective: The people most affected by sport have their rights respected and protected, their voices heard, and access to remedy when those rights are violated.
Our areas of focus: We will focus on 1) making sport safe from harassment, abuse and labour exploitation; 2) defending sport’s diversity and inclusion; 3) protecting people who speak up for human rights; and 4) supporting all women and girls’ right to play. The SRA’s Athletes Network sits at the heart of this pillar and cuts across all four of its strands.
Pillar #4: Movement
Our objective: The sport and human rights movement continues to grow, becoming stronger, more diverse and more sustainable. The SRA is an independent, resilient, and ever more global coalition that can increase its impact, while ensuring staff and organizational wellbeing and ethics of care.
Our areas of focus: The SRA’s ability to deliver on the other three pillars depends on the strength, resilience and reach of the coalition itself. We will work to grow and sustain that foundation across three areas: growing the movement, sustaining the organization, and raising our voice.
