Olympics: Open a Safe Hotline for Athletes to Report Abuse
The Sport & Rights Allianceโs report on abuse in Indian wrestling shows once again that when athletes facing abuse often have nowhere to turn โ especially when the perpetrators are powerful sports officials who are well-connected with national governments.
Join the #Hello??? Campaign to call on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to establish a safe, trauma-informed hotline where athletes can seek help and report abuse without fear of retaliation.
Switzerland: Put Human Rights the Heart of Sport
Some of the largest sports bodies such as FIFA and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognize that they have a responsibility to respect human rights, as outlined in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
However, Switzerland, which benefits economically from the presence of over 50 international sports federations, does not make such human rights due diligence mandatory โ the only initiatives that exist are based on voluntary action.
This needs to change: Join our call to the Federal Council to develop effective measures to ensure that sports associations based in Switzerland comply with their human rights responsibilities.
France: Ensure Sports for All
In France, home to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, countless Muslim women and girls are being excluded from basketball and other sports just because of their choice to wear the hijab.
The effect of these bans is that women athletes from the Olympicsโ own host nation are discriminated against and prevented from exercising their human rights, and that Muslim women and girls in France who choose to wear the hijab will never be able to qualify for the Games, given that they are excluded even at youth and recreational levels.
Sign this petition to demand that the French Basketball Federation and the French Ministry of Sport listen to the voice of rights-holders and take action against discrimination.
