About the Sport & Rights Alliance

The Sport & Rights Alliance (SRA) is a global coalition of leading NGOs and trade unions working together to embed human rights and anti-corruption across world sport and to promote the rights and well-being of those most affected by human rights risks associated with the delivery of sport. The SRA was founded in early 2015 to pressure global sports bodies to ensure their decision-making and operations respect international standards for human rights, labour rights, and anti-corruption, in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The SRA’s mission is to promote the rights and well-being of those most affected by human rights risks associated with the delivery of sport. Its partners include The Army of Survivors, Amnesty International, Football Supporters Europe, Human Rights Watch, ILGA World (The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association), the International Trade Union Confederation, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Transparency International, and World Players Association, UNI Global Union.

The SRA serves as a force multiplier for civil society groups working to promote the rights of everyone affected by sport, including children, women, activists, minorities, fans, athletes, and other workers. The SRA engages directly with the IOC, FIFA, and other leading sport bodies, and it has played pivotal roles in landmark decisions by these organisations to adopt new policies, bidding criteria for mega-events, and host city contract clauses that embed their responsibilities to respect human rights, labour standards, and anti-corruption measures.
